Important: The Konpe Channel is a series of blogs comparing Japanese products in Japan to Japanese products in the Philippines (or vice versa). It consists of two partner posts, one from a writer in the Philippines, and another from a writer in Japan. For example, after “Konpe #1: Taiyaki [Philippine Version], you’ll soon see a “Konpe #1: Taiyaki [Japan Version]” post. We highly recommend that you read both.

Okay, so finally here’s my review for Taiyaki [Japan Version].
I won’t be writing an introduction of what Taiyaki is since it was already mentioned in Taiyaki [Philippine Version].
Honestly, when I saw the pictures of what taiyaki looks like in the Philippines, I was a bit disappointed. Well, because of the shape. I’m not so sure if all Taiyaki sold here in Japan are fish-shaped but I guess, most of it are. As for the different flavors sold, I will write about it as I go along.
Luckily, there’s a Taiyaki Shop in a mall near our house. I managed to take a stolen shot of the shop. Sorry, I was kind of shy to take pictures in public. (>_<;)
Looks so different from the one in the Philippines, eh? (^_^)v
While I was waiting for my turn to buy a taiyaki, again, I managed to take a stolen shot of how they make Taiyaki. Here it is ↓
What flavors do they have? They have three namely:
- つぶあん「Tsubuan」 → This is the one I bought. It is the red-bean filled flavor. (Price: 130 yen – approximately 60 Php)
- カスタード 「Custard」→ (Price: 140 yen – approximately 70 Php)
- ツナ 「Tuna」→ (Price: 160 yen – approximately 80 Php)
The packaging is very different as well. See for yourself.
Taiyaki is best eaten when it’s hot so I bought my taiyaki when I was about to head home. I am lucky because it only takes about 3 minutes by bus, 10-15 minutes by foot from the mall to our house. As soon as I arrived home, I took my share and ate it!
Okay, okay, I know you’re waiting for the picture of the taiyaki I bought. Here it is!
So here’s the picture of my taiyaki! It looks and smell so delicious. It was still hot when I arrived home. I wanted to eat it as soon as I took it from the paper bag but I had to take pictures for you guys! Haha, just kidding.
Here’s the inside of the taiyaki, red-bean filling. Okay guys, this isn’t my first bite! I was planning on taking a picture after my first bite but I totally forgot about it… It was sooo delicious!!
Here are my final ratings:
- Taste: 5 of 5
- Value: 5 of 5
- Patronage: 5 of 5
- Overall: Kanpeki! (Perfect!) 5 of 5
